Workspaces
Timo Structural has two working windows:
  • Start Page window.
  • Modeling window.
Start Page Window

The first appears as start window of application. It is presented below.

Important Important

Timo Structural has two modes of saving Models into files. Both of them use usual way to save file with own extension (.tmsp), but one of them provides additionally saving the file with appropriate little picture - thumbnail. You can easily translate one existing mode to another and vice versa. The first way is usual application file - Timo Structural file with .tmsp extension you may save in any folder on your PC. Another one will be saved in special folder of Timo Structural installation. In other words when we are working with construction it seems more comfortable to have some picture - little presentation of Model saved together with traditional file name. This task solved by Samples+ Tab item presented in Start page (see screenshot above). Save and Save as commands use traditional way, another way of construction saving is available within Modeling workspace (see chapter below).

Before creation of new Model it is necessary to define Model Constant - unchangeable constant for decimal places (shown below). It is important for construction mounting process. Exactly it defines accuracy for butt points of Beam coordinates. As a default value it equals 3. For example, if Model will need in mounting accuracy 1mm then default value 3 is good choice for this constant value (for meter dimension). We strongly recommend to use 3 value of detected constant.

Position changing of Selected Sample (thumbnail) within Samples+ collection can be realized by one of two ways:
  1. Context Menu. It can be called by right mouse button clicking over Selected Sample (Model) item.
  2. With buttons at top part of window (arrows).

Modeling Window

Basic elements of Modeling Window are presented on screenshot below.

By default the new Beam will be placed along Z Axis of Coordinate system with center point (0; 0; 0) and length equal 1.0. Such manner can be changed by Beam positioning panel. All modes are presented on screenshot. All of you need it is 3 min playing with different combinations of specified options shown in screenshots.

Lets stop at the right part of Modeling Window. It consists of few groups of panels for scene management:
  1. Light and scaling (zooming) group of panels.
  2. Scene rotation and translation group.
  3. Axes length and Ratio group.
  4. Take screenshot panel.

Turning On/Off of detected panels (groups of panels) can be obtained by little toggle buttons at bottom right part of Modeling Window.

Details of the first one from list of panels are demonstrated below.

Next is Scene moving/rotation panel. The appropriate little toggle button is turning on Axes length panel and Ratio field also.

Important Important

It is important to notice that construction mounting process is possible within current Axes length. For example, if overall size of framing will be larger than such length(s) we must increase the appropriate Axis length. In screenshot above Axis lengths are determined as 20.0 units.

So named Ratio parameter or coefficient is introduced according to more comfortable view of construction at interactive mounting process. Valid range is 1..3 from integer values. Generally largest values correspond to more detailed view of the same construction.

There are two additional details in screenshot above which are require explanation:
  • Take screenshot panel;
  • Beam/nodes scalling slider.
The first panel is for placing custom model to Samples+ library within Start page Window and taking custom little thumbnail for it. The another is slider for global construction details scaling only but not for total scene. Indicated slider does hard work and it is intensive UI (user interface) control therefore we do not recommend use it at 1000 and more beams/spans framing scaling.
The using of slider is very clear but Take screenshot panel requires more deep consideration. The process consists of three stage:
  1. Create button is calling the border rectangle for thumbnail appearance.
  2. Take button starts the saving process.
  3. Escape button closes border rectangle and signals of process is finished.
Switching to Start page window we can be evidenced in new sample at the end of Samples+ library. Discussed details are shown at pictures below.

The Escape button is for cancellation of Take screenshot/thumbnail mode only. After switching to Start Page Window and browsing to the end of Samples+ list we can detect new formed saved sample as presented below.
